Having spent 10 years running my own restaurant I returned to education in 1993 and have worked in a wide range of schools and roles since then including as an Advanced Skills Teacher working across 2 local authorities to support Early Career teachers and PGCE trainees.

Since 2008 I have been focussed on providing excellent professional learning programmes for individuals, departments and schools.

I am passionate about ensuring that teachers have access to the best possible CPD in order to support the progression of learners in the classroom and increase their own sense of job satisfaction.

I have had a wide and varied career. I started life as a real-time embedded software engineer and was part of the team to produce the first ADSL broadband and fibre to the home.

I then spent 16 years teaching Physics in a variety of schools with nearly 10 years as Head of Department.

I now run my own businesses; one providing STEM support to schools and the other making geeky merchandise.

I have a real passion for education and a belief that quality CPD is the foundation for quality first teaching.  Having taught in secondary for 20 years, holding a range of posts within leadership, and being Subject Expert in STEM for a SCITT.

My interests lie in effective transition between phases supported well by my role as Vice Chair of Trustees at a primary MAT.

My MAEd research focused on application of practical, hands on experience in teaching STEM.

I have had many roles throughout my career, starting off writing abstracts for chemical patents before training to be a secondary science teacher.

I have worked in education for over 25 years moving on from teaching mainstream science to running a support centre then onto educational software development and training.

Since the curriculum reform announcements in 2013, I have been supporting schools with their computing offer; working to enhance staff skills and curriculum roll out.

I continue to teach computing at KS2 and KS3.

I’ve worked in Education since the mid-1990s and I’ve had school roles in subject leadership and middle management as well as working for a local authority advisory service, exam boards and the National Strategies.

My professional interests include improving computing education so that all learners become aware of how thinking computationally can make lives easier, especially by automating machines to do the drudgery thus letting us be more creative.

Outside work I’m usually assisting vegetables to grow, sailing, tinkering with machines and modelling with miniature aeroplanes and soldiers.

I have over 10 years’ experience in education working as a teacher of ICT then Computer Science, Head of department and Head of Year.

Prior to teaching I worked in industry at management level and have now successfully transitioned to running my own company writing resources for a range of EdTech companies, supporting schools and writing/delivering courses for the National Centre of Computing Education.

I have experienced and seen first-hand the transition from ICT to Computer Science and strongly believe in both being available to pupils and would love to support you on that journey.
